PTSD treatment recommended by the Prestigious Cochran Review: EMDR in Davis, Sacramento and Auburn

PTSD, or Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, is a painful condition with so many potential problems that one can feel crazy and out of control.  Common symptoms include flashbacks, numb feelings, nightmares, insomnia, depression, tension, anxiety attacks and relationship problems.   It is easy to understand how a person would feel crazy with so many problems. But this is not craziness.  It is simply a brain overwhelmed by trauma.

There is a treatment that can help the brain naturally, fairly easily and quickly (compared with talk therapy) to return to normalcy.  It is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR.  This treatment goes beyond talk therapy, which can take years and still not leave a person improved or changed.  Somehow the use of eye movements, while a person is concentrating on key aspects of a disturbing experience for just 20-30 seconds at a time, helps the brain to let go of things which have been stuck for days, months or years.  It is still not fully understood, but it has been researched so thoroughly that the Cochran Review of medical research has stated:

“Trauma focused cognitive behavioural therapy or eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing [EMDR] should be considered in individuals with PTSD. Psychological treatments can reduce symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Trauma focused treatments are more effective than non-trauma focused treatments.”
