Elder Issues, Treatment and Therapy
Short and Simple List of Common Concerns:
• Desire for peace and confidence in one’s golden years
• Life transitions
• Coping with personal and social losses
• Isolation
• Loneliness
• Inability to avoid or ignore old traumas or unresolved challenges
We all want our later years to be pleasant and enjoyable.Sometimes we need help in order for us to make that dream come true. As we grow older, our needs change and our best efforts to cope with those changes may be inadequate at times. Stress and worry may wear us or our loved ones down.
As we slow down from the demands of our careers, family, or community, old traumas or unresolved challenges can resurface. We may also find ourselves with a new responsibility in the role of caregiver to other family member, both younger and older. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR has been found to significantly help many to cope with these challenges.
It can be hard to admit that we need help. Historically, needing help has been viewed as weakness. Actually, just the opposite is true – accepting help is a sign of strength especially when one was raised believing that we need to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps. Even though we often tell others to ask for help if they need it, it may be time to take our own advice. Please call one of our EMDR specialists on aging today.
