Severe Anxiety and Depression is NO FUN
“…EMDR therapy. It’s a therapy now widely accepted as being the most effective for trauma, which can cause everything from panic attacks and nightmares, to–in my case–severe anxiety and depression.
After merely five sessions with my therapist, the long-suppressed feelings that have come up have been astounding. And after thirty years of trying every therapy known (both conventional and alternative) without ever shedding a single tear, I’ve already had two bouts of complete sobbing following two therapy sessions.A single traumatic event, of course, can be cured (sometimes in a mere three sessions) far swifter than a childhood history of severe trauma–as in my case, where my entire childhood constituted one long bout of one traumatic event after another. People can’t help but have severe anxiety and depression with a history like mine.
EMDR’s founder, Francine Shapiro, has estimated that it would take an average of twenty-four to twenty-six sessions in cases such as mine. But I now know it works, and the idea that in six to seven months my severe anxiety and depression will probably be echoes of the past have given me a new hope, and a strength to muddle through each difficult day. I would urge any people who have instances of trauma in their background to give EMDR a serious shot. Due to the emotions that have come up for me and the tears that have followed several sessions, I feel a certainty that it will help anyone who tries it.And I must sincerely thank both Charity and Debbie for suggesting I try this therapy in the first place.”
