Trauma affects people in many ways. Among the most typical are sleep problems, nightmares, thoughts that one can’t stop, anxiety, and often increasing depression. More subtle effects may be the erosion of self-confidence. Relationships might suffer as trauma sometimes affects the ability to be close to others, physically and emotionally.

Since 1998 I have been using EMDR Therapy in Orinda with my clients for the resolution of both recent and past traumas. One of the premises of EMDR Therapy is that we all have within us the capability to heal. When I am facilitating a client through an EMDR session, I often marvel at how that person’s unique experience evolves like a digital picture: drawing from his or her unique past and coming together with his/her best capabilities for healing.
Recovery from trauma includes finding those areas of strength with you that becomes your way out of stuck places. Finding and enhancing positive resources, reducing relapse triggers in addictions, helping persons with dissociative disorders, and relieving symptoms of anxiety and depression, are all important therapy goals and uses for EMDR Therapy.
