Grief is a natural response to loss. Examples of loss include the death of a loved one, retirement, a child transitioning out of the home, financial loss or bankruptcy, loss of good health or a physical attribute, a home foreclosure, a job or career, or loss of a relationship. The more significant the loss, the more intense the grieving process may be.

How you grieve depends on many factors, including the nature of the loss, your coping mechanisms, your understanding of the grief and loss process, and your spiritual belief system (though even people of faith can suffer greatly at times of loss). The important thing to remember is that healing from any loss can take time, and the amount of time will vary from person to person. So many intense feelings come and go and can stay stuck for a long time in the process of grieving. These include disbelief, sadness and depression, guilt, anger, and fear, as well as physical symptoms common to PTSD.

The therapists listed below are experienced and trained to help you successfully transition through the grief and loss process. EMDR therapy cannot remove you from the grieving process, but as one client said, “EMDR helped to take the knife out of my heart.”  EMDR, Brainspotting and Advanced Integrative Therapy can greatly help when a person is stuck in their grieving process.

It takes time to release someone or something that has held an important place in your heart and soul. We may rebel against the thought of releasing, and truly, it may mean releasing one stage of grief only to confront the next. Nonetheless, the goal is to begin to move forward and to make the adjustments that allow you to continue living your life. You can regain your own goals and dreams or find new goals, purposes, or aspirations. We hope to walk the path with you.  Please call one of our EMDRIA-Certified EMDR Therapists, listed on this page today.
