How Overlooked Traumas Impact Patient Health

A Course for Physicians, Complementary Health Care Providers and Supporters, and Therapists

Did you know that:

  1. People can have higher PTSD scores from non-life-threatening stressors?  (British Journal of Psychiatry, 2005)
  2. Patients of Orthopedic Surgeons have a PTSD rate of up to 52%?
  3. Patients who have a higher number of Adverse Childhood Experiences have a significantly higher rate of depression (and suicide attempts), chronic illnesses, over-use or under-use of the health care system, and predicted earlier death than the general population?  (Kaiser ACES study of 17,000 San Diego County residents)
  4. Research of Physicians in Massachusetts to see their attitude about assessing for trauma in their patients indicated:  Physicians believe it is important to assess, talk to their patients about trauma, and make appropriate referrals but they are not confident about their abilities to do so and want to have more training.

We have designed a course to address these concerns.

You will learn:

  • How trauma affects your patients
  • How to assess for trauma efficiently
  • How to talk to your patients about trauma, and create a plan for long-term follow-up
  • What treatments work for trauma, the comparison research, and our recommendations
  • How to easily refer for treatment
